Useless Until Needed
Useless — until needed.
Some objects look pointless in the garage in February. They hang there for months, collecting dust, taking up a hook. Then the first 95-degree day arrives — the lawn turns crunchy, the basement smells like rain, the tire light comes on at the worst possible exit — and that same object becomes the most important thing you own. This site indexes those objects. One honest page each: what it does, what it does not, and what thousands of real buyers said after owning it.

Flexzilla Garden Hose 100 ft
A hundred feet that uncoils flat and follows around corners without folding shut - the shelf's century-club answer to every vinyl hose that kinked and burst by August. The mold, fitting and materials candor stays on the page.

DREO Tower Fan 307
A 36-inch tower fan with a brushless DC motor: airflow up to 28 ft/s, as low as 20dB on its lowest speed, 8 speeds, Sleep mode, and a remote. Built for bedrooms that will not cool down.

Midea U 12,000 BTU Window AC
The window air conditioner shaped like a U, so the sash closes down into the channel and the compressor ends up outside the room with the noise. Rated for rooms up to 550 sq ft, and the window still opens with it installed. Measure your window before you buy.
Cooling and Heating
GiveBest Ceramic Space Heater
1500 watts of PTC ceramic that warms the six feet around one cold person - the footwell, the pre-dawn bathroom, the room the furnace forgets. The page promises the radius and nothing more.
Cooling and Heating
coldSky Handheld Turbo Fan
A 4000mAh handheld fan with 5 speeds, 100 stepless levels and a display that shows the battery left. Up to 8 hours on its lowest speed per the maker, loud on its highest per four buyers. It cools a person, not a room.
Cooling and Heating
JISULIFE Neck Fan Life3
A bladeless neck fan that keeps both hands free. Its own buyers say the air lands on the sides of the face and under the chin, not the back of the neck, and that the maker's 4-16 hours depends entirely on the speed. The page says so first.
Cooling and Heating
Koonie 8-Inch Clip On Fan
An 8-inch battery fan that clips to an edge or stands on its own, maker-rated up to 24 hours on its 10000mAh battery. The maker shows it on a golf cart; five buyers say the clip will not hold on one, and the page leads with that.

1 offerHow this site works
Boring objects, honest pages.
- We find the boring objects that save the day. The sprinkler, the sump pump, the tire inflator — the gear that sits unnoticed on a hook until the exact moment it matters most.
- We test the claims against real buyer reviews. Every page is built from what thousands of owners actually reported: what works, what breaks, and who should skip it.
- Links go to the retailer. No cart here, no account, no games — you buy where you already shop, at the same price. We may earn a commission (see the disclosure below).

An outage is four problems in a fixed order - light, information, cold, comfort. The first two cost almost nothing, and anything battery-powered is only as good as its last charge.

Weather and Emergency
Jackery Explorer 1000 v2
A 1070Wh battery that keeps the refrigerator running through an outage night. Silent, no fuel, indoor-safe - and honest about the 1500W ceiling that means it will never run central air.
Weather and Emergency
AddAcc 20000mAh Camping Fan
A 20000mAh rechargeable fan that keeps air moving when the grid does not. Up to 58 hours on its lowest speed and 16 on its highest, a 400-lumen LED ring, and a USB-out port for an emergency phone top-up. It is not air conditioning.
Weather and Emergency
Jackery Explorer 300
292 watt-hours in a 7.5-pound box: phones, a lamp, the router, a CPAP through the night. It will not run a refrigerator, and the page says so before you buy - that is the honest reason to choose it deliberately.
Weather and Emergency
FosPower NOAA Emergency Radio
The one channel that does not depend on anything you own. AM/FM plus NOAA weather band, three ways to keep it alive, and a reading light - with the honest caveat that the audio is modest and the crank is a trickle, not a charger.
Weather and Emergency
Basement Watchdog Water Alarm
A battery, a sensor on a six-foot wire, and a 110-decibel scream when a thirty-second of an inch of water arrives. It does not stop water - it buys you the minutes between a mop and a claim.
Weather and Emergency
LifeStraw Personal Water Filter
4,000 liters of microbiologically safe drinking through a straw that lives in a drawer. Bacteria, parasites and microplastics out - with the honest limit stated plainly: viruses, chemicals and salt are not its job.

Etekcity LED Lanterns, 4-Pack
Four rooms of 360-degree light with zero flames. Collapse to off, lift to on, maker-rated up to 50 hours per lantern on AAs you can stockpile - honest about being room light, not a floodlight.
Weather and Emergency

260 sorted pieces behind a clear latched lid - the kit that answers the kitchen cut, the scraped knee and the minor burn before the panic finishes forming. First aid only, and the page says exactly where that line sits.
Weather and Emergency
LETMY S2000 Flashlight 2-Pack
Two zoomable LED flashlights so the blackout starts with a click instead of a search - one for the kitchen drawer, one for the glovebox. Batteries not included, and the page says so up front.
Weather and Emergency
QIO CHUANG Mylar Blankets 4-Pack
Four sealed packets smaller than a phone, each unfolding to a 55 x 84 inch foil sheet that hands the body's own heat back. Reflection, not insulation - the page states the physics and the crinkle honestly.
Questions people actually ask
Straight answers, before you buy anything.
Does a fan actually cool a room?
No. Only refrigeration lowers the temperature of the air. A fan moves air across your skin, which makes you feel several degrees cooler while it is pointed at you and does nothing for an empty room. That one distinction decides whether a fan or an air conditioner is the right thing to buy.
What should you buy before a power outage, and what can wait?
Light and information first — they fail the instant the grid does and they cost the least. Then a way to keep phones charged, then cold, then comfort. Anything bought during the warning is bought at the worst price and the thinnest shelves.
Do citronella candles keep mosquitoes away?
Barely, and only in still air within a foot or two of the flame. What measurably reduces mosquitoes is emptying standing water every week; what protects one specific spot is a repellent zone; what protects you personally is something on your skin. The candle is mostly atmosphere.
How long will a portable power station run a refrigerator?
For a 1,000Wh-class unit, roughly seven to ten hours for a modern fridge that averages 100-150W across its duty cycle. A fridge cycles on and off rather than drawing continuously, which is why an honest answer is a range and never a single number.
What is the cheapest way to keep air moving when the power is out?
A battery-powered fan. A 20,000mAh unit runs from about 16 hours at its highest speed to about 58 at its lowest, and can put an emergency top-up into a phone from the same battery. It moves air over you — it does not cool the room, and nothing that runs on a battery will.
Does low water pressure stop a lawn sprinkler from working?
Usually it shrinks the circle rather than stopping the spin. Sprinkler coverage figures are always pressure-dependent, so the practical fix on a weak line is to accept a smaller pattern and move the sprinkler more often, rather than to buy a bigger one.

NOCO Boost GB40 Jump Starter
A one-pound lithium pack that starts a dead car by itself - no second vehicle, no stranger, no chance of connecting the clamps backwards. Its one real weakness is being left uncharged in a trunk, and the page says so.
Automotive
AstroAI Cordless Tire Inflator
Set the number from your door jamb, press once, walk away while it stops itself. Cordless or 12V, about a set of tires per charge - and noisy, which reviewers say plainly and so do we.

Cut the belt, break the glass, get out. A spring-loaded punch and belt cutter on the one keychain you already carry - honest that no breaker works on laminated side glass, and how to check yours.

EcoNour Windshield Sun Shade (Medium)
The two-circle reflective shade in the Medium size, 64 x 32 inches per the maker, with a pouch. Its own buyers split on the fit and on folding it back up, so the page starts with a measuring rule instead of a promise.
