Useless Until Needed is free to read and runs no paid placements. It is funded by affiliate commissions: when you click a link to a retailer or brand on this site and buy something, that retailer or brand may pay us a percentage of the sale. The price you pay is the same either way.
Programs we participate in
uselessuntilneeded.com is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
We may also earn commissions through other affiliate programs and networks operated by, or on behalf of, the retailers and brands whose products we cover. When we join a program, links to that retailer or brand become affiliate links.
Which links are affiliate links
Every button or link that takes you to a retailer's product listing should be assumed to be an affiliate link. Links to manufacturers' own sites, to public safety resources, to our own pages and to our publisher are not.
What a commission does not change
- It does not change the price you pay. Affiliate fees are paid by the retailer out of its own margin.
- It does not change what we recommend. Pages are written downside-first, from buyer evidence, and an object that does not earn its place does not get a page, whatever its commission rate.
- It does not buy coverage. We do not accept payment, free products or other consideration in exchange for a review or a placement, and we have never been asked to change a verdict.
Why we disclose
The United States Federal Trade Commission requires that material connections between a publisher and the sellers it links to be disclosed clearly and close to the recommendation. This page is the long form of that disclosure; a short version appears in the footer of every page on the site.
